It is very common to see the route that ants follow to reach your home, because they usually come and go through the same place and you can run into them during the journey. Sprinkle dusts where ants usually pass and you will have them enter your home much less, as it will scare them away.

Mint leaves

Mint leaves are another good ally against ants, you just have to leave leaves in areas where you don’t want ants to be and they will leave quickly. 

A good idea is to place the leaves in small sacks of fine cloth and tie them with a cord at one end. If possible, we will use the cord to fix it to the areas where we want to leave the leaves, since if we simply place the leaves without a bag, they will most likely move easily.

Lemon juice

In general, citrus fruits are enemies of ants . You can squeeze a couple of lemons and put the juice in a spray can to spray the soil with lemon, it will not only scare away the ants, but will also serve as a potent homemade flavoring.

Garlic

 You must crush a couple of garlic heads, put it in a spray can and add water . Let the mixture stand for a couple of hours so that the water acquires the smell of garlic.

Orange

If you make juice in the morning for breakfast and you have ants in your house, you can keep the orange peel to place it outside and inside the house . If you leave them outside, you will surely attract more butterflies to your garden.

You can also crush the shells and place small portions in the path of the ants, it is common for them to pick up the pieces and take them with them to the anthill. If they do this, the orange will release a substance that is toxic to the ants and this will cause them to leave their anthill looking for a better place.

Baking soda and sugar

Mix in a bicarbonate bowl and sugar in equal parts and pour it in the ants’ passing areas . 

This mixture gives off a substance that is toxic to ants, so they will move away from it as soon as they detect it, so it is a method that usually works very effectively.

Avoid the appearance of ants

Once you have managed to eliminate the ants at home using any of the methods mentioned above, you should take care that they do not appear again. Here are some very important tips you should follow to prevent them from coming back:

  • Clean:  having the house well cleaned will make the ants not feel interested in being in our home. If you cook the kitchen of food scraps, bread crumbs, etc., you will not have access to easy food.
  • Use repellents:  you can use natural repellents like the ones we have mentioned, although you can also use chemicals. You just have to spray the entrances of the house, doors, windows and any other place through which ants can enter.
  • Maintain and maximize hygiene: the kitchen is the place where we store food and prepare it, hence the predilection of the ant for this space. Throughout the day it is easy to have food remains such as bread crumbs, sugar, oil splashes, … We must get used to cleaning after preparing food and not leaving remains that attract them.
  • Properly store food: small ants at home are easily introduced through any hole, accessing cupboards and cupboards. Keep food open in airtight glass jars or plastic containers, as ants can gnaw cardboard containers.
  • Seal holes using silicone or plaster: this will prevent ants from staying in those holes and even establishing nests.
